Zuora helps MJ Freeway keep their customers happy with Amazon-like ordering and invoices, as well as compliant with dozens of distinct state and federal cannabis programs.

MJ Freeway calls itself the ERP of the cannabis industry. They offer a comprehensive SaaS solution for managing all manner of cannabis operations, from boutique shops to large multi-state or even multi-country businesses.  In addition to compliance monitoring, seed-to-sale tracking, and dispensary point-of-sale services, MJ Freeway offers operators a host of proprietary insights based on over seven years of industry data.

One of the first systems providers to establish themselves in the nascent cannabis industry, IT veterans Jessica Billingsley and Amy Poinsett realized they couldn’t just white label a systems management program for such a kinetic and diverse industry. The two co-founders decided early on to create a new platform that would provide the cannabis industry with two core services: the ability to track every gram (a vitally important matter in an industry where millions of dollars can be lost over relatively small amounts of product), and to guarantee to meet or exceed any state or federal requirements for cannabis dispensaries.

As their back-office dependencies grew with their business, MJ Freeway’s co-founders realized the need for an integrated recurring billing system. “We ran an evaluation process with full due diligence, because we wanted to implement an enterprise solution that would not need to be reevaluated for another three to five years,” says Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Jessica Billingsley.

Zuora helped MJ Freeway get rid of a number of order form workarounds and  data entry pain points. Quotes are now tied directly to MJ Freeway’s Salesforce presence, and their back office can now natively comply with new ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.  Their clients and prospects enjoy a seamless sequence of customer touchpoints, from quotes to contracts to invoices.

Today the company has processed over $5 billion in sales, and takes advantage of one of the largest data sets in the industry to constantly improve its platform. With recent investments from Elevation Partner’s Roger McNamee and Tao Capital Partners, MJ Freeway is poised to establish themselves as a major technology platform in the national cannabis industry, which is expected to reach $22.5 billion by 2021.
